Learn about Guardian’s actuarial program: For students and professionals
At insurance companies, actuaries fill a vital role. An insurance actuary uses mathematics, probability, statistics, and business acumen to assess and quantify risk. The actuaries at Guardian are well respected and can rise to high levels of management. We offer an Actuarial Program that provides excellent opportunities. For college students, the actuary training program involves summer actuary internships. For people who are further along in their career or thinking of changing their profession, we offer full-time actuary training internships that may lead further.
Features of the program
We offer significant support that includes:

We aim to train our program participants in the multidisciplinary aspects of actuarial work. This is accomplished by a rotation across our various lines of business, including life insurance, workplace benefits, disability income insurance, and retirement.
Other benefits of the Guardian Program
Our actuarial interns also benefit from being part of a community. We offer a variety of events annually to enhance participants’ skills and promote interdepartmental relationships. Study groups are often formed to help prepare for actuarial exams.
Ongoing opportunities
After actuarial program participants complete the exams and fulfill the requirements necessary to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Guardian can provide opportunities and challenges that may lead to management and senior positions.
Requirements
Candidates are required to have passed at least one actuarial exam to be considered. Communication skills and interest in the profession are important. Please send us an email at ASC_-_Recruiting@glic.com for current opportunities at each of our three locations: New York, NY; Bethlehem, PA; and Pittsfield, MA.
