The Colleague Connection Committee at the Guardian office in Bethlehem, PA, takes workplace culture to the next level. They host events including football tailgates and time with therapy dogs in order to build a fulfilling office life and focus on the mental wellness of colleagues.

Meet Mahenthiran

From tragedy to triumph

Mahenthiran Kulandhaivelu had been working as an operations associate in Group Benefits Billing at Guardian India when he was involved in a critical, disabling accident. It resulted in the loss of his legs.

His life turned upside down. He moved home with his family, went on disability, and struggled with depression — but he was also incredibly resilient. It took over a year, but he learned how to walk again.

Mahenthiran’s colleagues at Guardian India knew that he would need time to recover. “I could take that time to heal,” says Mahenthiran, “because my job was secure. I learned that when life gets hard, Guardian will never leave you behind.”

When Ashvin Chheda’s father was diagnosed with cancer, he realized he needed to better understand his father’s savings and investments. It turned into a hobby, and then a passion, and then a career as a Guardian financial professional. Ashvin’s financial philosophy is that there is no wellness without financial wellness. He believes in sharing with his clients the simplicity of personal finance: save with discipline, invest wisely, and make decisions that protect your family. That allows you the financial independence to live a happy life.
