Guardian Designated a ‘Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality’ by Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index
New York, NY, January 22, 2020 – The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America® (Guardian), one of the nation’s largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits, has earned a perfect score of 100 in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index and in recognition of its commitment to diversity and inclusion has been designated a “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.”
HRC’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index is a national benchmarking survey that evaluates corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
“For the fourth consecutive year, Guardian is proud to earn a perfect score in the HRC's 2020 Corporate Equality Index and be named a best place to work for LGBTQ equality,” said CEO Deanna Mulligan. “Our culture is one that appreciates and welcomes diversity in every form which enables our colleagues to bring their best selves to work and better relate to our consumers.”
Guardian supported a host of efforts throughout the year that resulted in the company achieving a perfect score. These include signing the HRC Equality Act, encouraging employees to complete unconscious bias and respect at work training and broadening the reach of our job board postings to the LGBTQ community.
Previously, the company was one of the first to sign the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge – a commitment to advance programs that cultivate inclusive working environments across corporate America. Guardian also raised its overall supplier diversity spend and for the first time documented the portion allocated to small businesses owned by those who identify as LGBTQ.
