Guardian Designated a ‘Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality’ by Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index
New York, NY, January 29, 2021 – The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America® (Guardian), one of the nation’s largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits, has earned a perfect score of 100 in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index and in recognition of its commitment to inclusion and diversity has been designated a 2021 “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” Guardian joins the ranks of 767 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.
HRC’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index is a national benchmarking survey that evaluates corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
“Receiving this honor once again reflects our continued commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and an inclusive culture. We desire to ensure that our colleagues represent the diversity of our current and future client base,” says CEO Andrew McMahon. “Diversity will help accelerate impact and lead the change as we build a truly distinctive and inclusive culture.”
Previously, Guardian was one of the first to sign the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge – a commitment to advance programs that cultivate inclusive working environments across corporate America. Guardian also raised its overall supplier diversity spend and for the first time documented the portion allocated to small businesses owned by those who identify as LGBTQ.
