12th Annual Workplace Benefits Study, Guardian, 2023

The tech industry as a whole offers progressive benefits and a positive workplace culture. However, this does not hold true for all types of tech companies. In particular, small start-ups don’t generally offer the variety of core benefits that larger, more mature tech firms do. This report focuses on what small businesses can do to offer more benefits that impact employees’ well-being.

Small start-ups are less likely to offer core benefits than larger, more mature tech firms.

Despite this, workers at smaller, younger tech firms tend to report being happier with their benefits, likely because start-up workers skew younger demographically and are more impressed with flashy workplace perks than core benefits like life and disability insurance. However, this could lead to his leads to an overconfidence and, ultimately, a precarious financial footing.
